Turkish PM: Israeli Attacks on Gaza are ‘State Terror’

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan made some quite heated statements in condemnation of the most recent Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip in a speech Tuesday, calling the attacks a “massacre.”

A cease fire between Gaza militants and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) went into effect Tuesday but there have been reports of rocket attacks despite this agreement.

Thus far, according to Israeli news outlet Haaretz, almost 200 rockets have hit Israeli territory since the most recent outbreak of violence began on Friday.

The Israeli Air Force has conducted some 37 airstrikes on targets in the Gaza Strip, 19 of which supposedly targeted rocket launchers while 18 allegedly targeted weapons warehouses.

These attacks have resulted in 26 Palestinian deaths, 22 of which were allegedly militants while four were civilians who had no hand in the rocket fire.

In a speech to the Turkish parliament, Erdogan called on Israel to “stop the brutal attack against Palestinians and stop the massacre and bloodshed.”

He also called the Israeli airstrikes on Palestinians “state terror,” adding that the Turkish people have an obligation to “remember that Gazans are our brothers, and will always remain so.”

Transparent ploy to legitimize US military invasion of Africa
The viral Kony 2012 propaganda film has stoked anger amongst those it was ostensibly designed to help – Ugandan citizens – who see through the movie as a transparent ploy to legitimize a US military invasion of Africa.

During a screening of the documentary in northern Uganda, the area that was worst affected by Joseph Kony’s LRA, crowds reacted with confusion, anger and eventually violence, throwing rocks at the screen in protest against the underhanded motive behind the film.

“There are some kinds of people, some kind of NGO who are trying to mobilize funds using the atrocities committed in northern Uganda,” said one Ugandan.

Another expressed the opinion that Kony 2012 was a bunch of white Americans exploiting the suffering of black people on a different continent for their own ends.

As the rocks begin to be pelted at the screen, the Al Jazeera reporter notes that the film “clearly doesn’t resonate with many of the people it claims it’s meant to help.”

Ugandans also expressed disgust at the notion that the face of Kony was being used to adorn t-shirts, a display that they feel belittles their suffering. Of course, the fact that the Invisible Children organization behind the Kony 2012 film is a business empire posing as a charity that spends the majority of its expenses on lining the pockets of its owners explains why the merchandise is just as important as the message.

Tsunami Alert as 6.8 Earthquake Hits Japan

Source: RT

A magnitude 6.8 earthquake has struck off the northeastern coast of Japan almost exactly one year after a devastating tsunami killed thousands.

The most recent quake was at a depth of some 10 km. Japan’s nuclear facilities are reportedly unscathed.

A tsunami warning was issued for the coastal Aomori and Iwate prefectures as well as the central and eastern Hokkaido coast. Authorities advised area residents to evacuate to higher ground.

According to the NHK TV channel two waves measuring 20 and 10 cm respectively reached the Japanese coast. The tsunami alert was later canceled.

Wednesday’s tremor came just days after Japan marked the anniversary of the March 11, 2011 disaster. At the time, a magnitude 9.0 earthquake, the strongest seismic event to ever hit the country, triggered a massive tsunami.

The giant wave killed 15,900 and smashed the Fukushima nuclear power plant, causing the world’s worst nuclear disaster since Chernobyl.

Eurozone Formally Approves Second Greek Bailout

Eurozone countries have finally approved the second 130 billion euro financing package for Greece, which would save the country from going bankrupt in the short run.

"Euro area member states have today formally approved the second adjustment program for Greece," Luxembourg Prime Minister and the chairman of the eurozone finance ministers, Jean-Claude Juncker said in a statement on Wednesday.

Juncker said that the European Financial Stability Facility (EFSF) has been authorized by eurozone governments to release a "first installment" of 39.4 billion euros to Greece under the scheme, to be disbursed in several tranches.

Junker described the financial aid as "a unique opportunity for Greece that should not be missed," and said that a "strong commitment" from Athens to "fiscal consolidation, structural reforms and privatization" was required to return the Greek economy "to a sustainable path, which is in the interest of everyone."

In order to receive the bailout fund, which is funded mostly by eurozone countries and the International Monetary Fund, Greece had to adopt harsh austerity measures including massive cuts to its private and public sector wages, pensions, health and defense spending.

Greece has the highest debt burden in proportion to the size of its economy in the 17-nation eurozone. Despite austerity cuts and the bailout funds, the country has been in recession since 2009.

Greece’s first bailout, which was approved by Eurozone finance ministers on May 2, 2010, was worth 110 billion euros (147 billion dollars).

Despite numerous austerity cuts implemented by the government and bailout funds provided by international lenders, which are aimed at stimulating growth, Greek economy has continued to contract and is not expected to show expansion until 2013.

Media claims Paul’s events, attended by thousands, are not newsworthy

It is now official. The mainstream media is no longer covering Ron Paul’s presidential campaign.

A few weeks ago Dylan Byers of Politico reported that NBC News was the only media organization that still had a reporter covering Ron Paul full-time.

Now Byers has filed an update revealing that Anthony Terrell of NBC News has also been reassigned.

“Ron Paul is officially embedless.” writes Byers, adding that NBC has refused to comment on the decision.

Byers also reveals that other mainstream organizations, including Fox News, have no intention of putting a reporter back out full-time.

“Paul doesn’t have as many events right now as the other candidates in the race,” Hunter Ryan, the politics editor at Fox News Channel, told Byers.

“He is focusing on certain states. I am planning on covering him… [and] a combination of embed and bureau resources will be used to cover Paul going forward.”

“For most political reporters, he is all but irrelevant to the future of the GOP contest.” Byers adds.

As Paul supporters will know, any claim that Paul is not holding as many events as the other candidates is pure fiction. Indeed, Paul’s events consistently attract numbers in the thousands.
