Greece: Euro Free Alternative Currency Takes Off

Source: Guardian
Jon Henley

In recent weeks, Theodoros Mavridis has bought fresh eggs, tsipourou (the local brandy: beware), fruit, olives, olive oil, jam, and soap. He has also had some legal advice, and enjoyed the services of an accountant to help fill in his tax return.

None of it has cost him a euro, because he had previously done a spot of electrical work – repairing a TV, sorting out a dodgy light – for some of the 800-odd members of a fast-growing exchange network in the port town of Volos, midway between Athens and Thessaloniki.

In return for his expert labour, Mavridis received a number of Local Alternative Units (known as tems in Greek) in his online network account. In return for the eggs, olive oil, tax advice and the rest, he transferred tems into other people's accounts.

"It's an easier, more direct way of exchanging goods and services," said Bernhardt Koppold, a German-born homeopathist and acupuncturist in Volos who is an active member of the network. "It's also a way of showing practical solidarity – of building relationships."

He had just treated Maria McCarthy, an English teacher who has lived and worked in the town for 20 years. The consultation was her first tem transaction, and she used one of the vouchers available for people who haven't yet, or can't, set up an online account.

"I already exchange directly with a couple of families, mainly English teaching for babysitting, and this is a great way to extend that," said McCarthy. "This is still young, but it's growing very quickly. Plainly, the more you use it the more useful to you it gets."

Tems has been up and running for barely 18 months, said Maria Choupis, one of its founder members. Prompted by ever more swingeing salary cuts and tax increases, she reckons there are now around 15 such networks active around Greece, and more planned. "They are as much social structures as economic ones," she said. "They foster intimacy and mutual support."

Acts of Love

Source: TruthDig
Chris Hedges

Love, the deepest human commitment, the force that defies empirical examination and yet is the defining and most glorious element in human life, the love between two people, between children and parents, between friends, between partners, reminds us of why we have been created for our brief sojourns on the planet. Those who cannot love—and I have seen these deformed human beings in the wars and conflicts I covered—are spiritually and emotionally dead. They affirm themselves through destruction, first of others and then, finally, of themselves. Those incapable of love never live.
“Hell,” Dostoevsky wrote, “is the inability to love.”

10 Most Influential People in Alternative Media (2011)

Source: Activist Post

Many readers will expect to see Matt Drudge or Arianna Huffington on this list.  Although they both indeed have leading Internet news websites that cover some fringe stories and report on systematic injustices more so than the mainstream media, they primarily aggregate mainline news.  Therefore, they are excluded from our "alternative media" label.

The criteria we've chosen to base these rankings of the most influential alternative media figures are the following;
  • people that have the courage to seek the truth no matter where the information leads them;
  • those with the courage to question 9/11;
  • those who don't buy into the false left-right political paradigm;
  • those who are grounded in peace and liberty;
  • those with the communication skills and platform to affect real change.
Significantly, each of the people who made our list is clearly driven by unyielding passion. Despite some natural disagreements, they each provide a unique bridge to forbidden knowledge and they all deserve high praise for their efforts and commitment to inform the public. Sincerely, it is very encouraging to have so many talented voices leading the stampede for truth, liberty, justice, and peace.

Iranian Hostage Crisis: Reloaded

Source: Activist Post
Jack Mullen

Without Osama Bin Laden to play the role of Orwell’s 1984 elusive bad guy, Emanuel Goldstein, the New World Order master controllers have elevated “bad country” Iran to the position of most feared enemy.

Iran and North Korea are special nations reserved for global theatre operations, carried out by global masters and their intelligence mafias, to be bogeyman; scaring and scapegoating false flag events, supporting a global agenda. Iran was used previously in a false flag hostage situation for the purpose of putting religious fanatic Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in control of Iran, and ensuring Ronald Reagan -- and, more importantly, his Vice President, George Herbert Walker Bush, -- would defeat incumbent Jimmy Carter in the 1982 Presidential election. The 1982 false flag event was called the "Iran Hostage Crisis."

In 2012, Iran is again holding hostages; this time Israel and Western nations including the United States, but it is called the “Iranian Nuclear Crisis” -- where Israel and the West are held hostage to the fiction that Iran is building nuclear weapons to bomb Israel and the West. In this “reloaded” version of the hostage crisis, the false flag event will be used to bolster support for the failing presidency of Obama and to commit sovereign nation suicide as Iran and its resources are transferred to the globalists hoping to usher in a New World Government.

Additionally, if possible, Iran may actually retaliate against their global masters and cause World War III, something that would also fit the agenda of the New World Puppeteers.

How Ron Paul Could Win

Source: Institute For Political Economy
Dr. Paul Craig Roberts

In the Soviet Union common criminals were punished less harshly and received better treatment than political prisoners. A person who had committed a violent crime had more rights than someone who expressed criticism of the government and could be portrayed as having acted against the government. We now have the same situation in the US.

In a recent case the Supreme Court overturned the sentence of a drug dealer who was convicted on the basis of a warrantless 28-day search by having a GPS device affixed to his car. In other words, a common criminal still has privacy rights under the Constitution, but not US citizens who are suspected of vague and nebulous “terrorist support.”

Both Republicans and Democrats have demonstrated disregard for the civil liberty protections guaranteed by the US Constitution. Among the visible candidates for president, only Ron Paul has respect for the Constitution. As it is now possible for the executive branch to take away the life and liberty of a US citizen without due process of law, the Constitution is for all practical purposes lost. Tyranny looms, and Ron Paul is the only candidate who stands against tyranny.

This is why I have written that Ron Paul is our last chance and encouraged his libertarian handlers to be flexible enough for the electorate to elect Ron Paul. I agree that Ron Paul, if elected president, would be hamstrung by the Establishment, but the other candidates offer no hope whatsoever.

What is at stake is not libertarianism, but the US Constitution. Unfortunately, not many libertarians see that. Neither do many progressives. If truth be known, Americans are too divided and in opposition to one another to be able to unite against tyranny.

Ron Paul Moves To Repeal Indefinite Detention Of American Citizens Without Trial

Source: MOXNews

In a break from his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination, Paul took to the House floor to speak out against the NDAA's Section 1021, which allows the government to detain without trial individuals who have "substantially supported al Qaeda, the Taliban, or associated forces that are engaged in hostilities against the United States." Paul and other opponents of the section's language fear that the legislation could lead to Americans being detained without due process.

Corbett Report Radio - The People's Book Project with Andrew Gavin Marshall

Source: Corbett Report
James Corbett

Tonight we talk to Andrew Gavin Marshall about The People’s Book Project, an experiment in crowdfunding to counter the influence of the multinational corporations, foundations and other institutions that have been directing our society for generations with their seemingly unlimited funds. We discuss the book, Andrew’s forthcoming podcast, “Empire, Power, and People,” for BoilingFrogsPost.com, and the institutional framework that has been laid by organizations like the CFR for the projection of American power throughout the globe.

10 New Year's Resolutions for Non-violent Activism

Source: Activist Post

As the United States edges closer to becoming a third world country; anger, frustration, and cynicism continue to mount in the minds of the American population.  Americans are no longer optimistic about the direction of their country.  This pessimism seems warranted as authentic political solutions appear to be in short supply in our corporate state.

The democratic political system is now clearly run by crony cartelism.  The multinational banks have hijacked the economy and are openly looting the public. Mounting and impossible-to-pay off debt is crippling local governments. The entire spectrum of our rights continues to degrade as the close of 2011 saw the passage of the National Defense Authorization Act, which declares America itself to be a war zone, and its citizens potential enemy combatants. Meanwhile, crimes that would land regular citizens in jail are now openly being committed by the elite and their organizations with no justice. Perhaps most telling, the power structure is establishing a control grid to eliminate Internet freedom, and even to use cyberspace in offensive acts of war.  Given the current situation, it can seem impossible to affect real change. However, the exact opposite is the case.

The only reason the system is maintained is because the majority still acquiesce to it. However, change won't come by electing new establishment politicians, because no matter how noble they may be they still must play the corrupt game. Change won't come through violent protests or offensive cyber hacktivism, as that only invites and justifies the creeping police state.  We must stop accepting and supporting the system, individually, in order to change it.

Because our representative democracy has become a fraud, and the media and courts are clearly shills for the oligarchs, our only action appears to be non-violent rebellion; one person and community at a time. We can expose the crimes and immorality of the corporate state through civil disobedience and conscientious objection. We can punish multinational companies who commit flagrant fouls on humanity and the environment by boycotting them. Additionally, we can peacefully regain our liberty by becoming less dependent on the system for our basic needs.

Here are ten solutions through non-violent activism:

Senator Wyden Call To Arms — Ask Him To Read Your Name During Filibuster Of SOPA/PIPA Censorship Bills

Source: The Intel Hub

http://StopCensorship.org — Sign up to have your name read during Wyden’s filibuster!
The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA) would ruin so much of what’s best about the Internet: They will give the government and corporations new powers to block Americans’ access to sites that are accused of copyright infringement, force sites like YouTube to go to new lengths to police users’ contributions, and put people in prison for streaming certain content online.

There’s a good chance this legislation will pass — but Senator Ron Wyden is a steadfast opponent, and he says he’ll try to block it by filibustering if it comes up for a vote.
Sometimes filibusters last hours — or days — leaving Senators reading out of the dictionary or cookbooks to pass the time. But we’ve got a better idea:

Millions of Americans support Internet freedom. What better way to demonstrate our strength than to ask Senator Wyden to read our names into the record during his filibuster? He’s agreed to read as many names as possible, and to enter the rest into the Congressional Record.

Why Are So Many People Gathering to Hear David Icke?

Source: Activist Post
Heather Callaghan

What can you expect to hear if you listen to David Icke? Everything!

He also empowers and motivates us to reclaim our personal freedom. You can be fearless in the midst of a seemingly cruel and crazy world. There is a method to the madness for all that's irrational today, although it comes from an artificial reality, keeping us from our own natural consciousness.

It takes an amazing brilliancy and energy to take everyone through a personal prison break, speaking a mile a minute for nearly 11 hours straight! That's what he did recently in Cleveland, Ohio and a few days ago in New York, connecting dots and pinpointing the sources for today's confusion.

Asleep, we meander in a routinized, hazy, yet invisible prison. A world where we are made to feel shame even for every breath, as though we are so small and unworthy that we should receive punishment for filling the atmosphere with our sighs. We might feel confused, fearful, depressed, trapped, exhausted, deflated until it seems like our existence is squeezed into the size of a postage stamp.

But why should that be so! One of his book titles makes for a better description: Infinite Love is the Only Truth, Everything Else is Only Illusion. Always researching, he covers much: metaphysics, technology, co-opted revolutions, top-level power and world banks, fluoride, modern medicine, food politics, vibrational and electromagnetic frequencies, radiation, the left-brain 5-sense prison, the rise of child abuse, Zionism (more than meets the eye), world economy and debt, smart meters, narcissistic cops – trained to lack empathy, greater social consciousness, and tapping into our awareness.

Corbett Report Radio - The Solution

Source: Corbett Report
James Corbett

The problems are many, and we are all well aware of them: endless wars of aggression for the furtherance of empire; an economic system that has been engineered to put us into unpayable debt; an encroaching police state that is trying to cinch the noose of control even tighter around our necks. Tonight on Corbett Report Radio we take your calls with wide-open phone lines as we provide the answer to the question that everyone asks: What is the solution?

Iceland's Debt and the People's Revolt - Michael Hudson on GRTV

Source: Corbett Report and Global Research.ca

Iceland was one of the hardest hit nations in the immediate aftermath of the September 2008 economic meltdown. Asked by their own government to pay Britain and Holland for bailing out their Icesave-exposed banks, the people overwhelmingly said “no.” Do the actions of the Icelandic people present an example for the rest of the world as we see the global economy teetering on the edge of collapse? Find out on this week’s GRTV Feature Interview with Michael Hudson.

THE CHOICE: RENAISSANCE, REFORMATION, OR REVOLUTION

Source: Giza Death Star
Dr. Joseph P. Farrell

We face a choice…we’re at a fork in the road with three branches: Renaissance, Reformation, or Revolution. We stand, in other words, at the same crossroads we stood at about half a millennium ago, and for similar reasons.

Consider only the parallels. Then an elite prevailed that had been in power for well over a millennium. It was an elite that controlled the mechanisms of bureaucracy, of money, and most importantly, of information and general culture. It could and did depose kings, and arrange the fates of nations. It launched – on its pretended divine authority – massive invasions of the Middle East and a “clash of civilizations.”It launched one of the bloodiest internal purges in history against the Cathars. It enforced its own version of political correctness and hate speech legislation, burning people alive who dared disagree with it, and hypocritically washing its hands of the deed by making “the secular authority” perform the executions. Its institutional claims, in spite of its modern face of gentility, have not changed. Nor has it repented and disavowed many of those deeds.

The Second American Revolution Has Begun

Source: Natural News.com
Mike Adams

There's a sense of desperation in America today. Their jobs are being exported out of the country, their health insurance is being dropped by employers, their dollars are becoming increasingly worthless with each passing day and their futures don't look very promising. They're angry, frustrated and desperate, so they take to the streets and protest. Occupy Wall Street! Occupy The Fed! Take to the streets!

It's the right thing to do, but what most protesters -- and nearly all Americans -- don't fully grasp is that nearly every powerful institution is a criminal racket. It's not just Wall Street that's operated like a criminal mob, folks: It's the U.S. Congress. It's the health care industry. It's conventional agriculture, the mainstream media, the processed food manufacturers, the government regulators and of course the entire military industrial complex.

Nearly everything around you is a criminal operation. The banks openly steal your homes while laundering money for global drug lords. The U.S. government runs illegal guns into Mexico while allowing cocaine and heroin back into the USA to be sold at pumped-up black market prices. The mainstream media broadcasts outright lies and complete fabrications as if they were fact. Much of modern medical "science" is complete quackery or fiction, funded by corporations for the purpose of expanding corporate power. The local water supply is intentionally contaminated with toxic poisons known as "fluoride," and the local food supply is tainted with other dangerous chemicals like aspartame, MSG and BPA.
