The blast in Iran that killed 17 people and injured another 15,
including a leading Iranian missile researcher, at the Bid Ganeh base is
now being linked to the Israeli intelligence agency, Mossad.
This comes after the Israeli intelligence site, arguably a pure disinformation source, DEBKAfile
claimed that the explosion was caused by a failed attempt at affixing a
nuclear warhead to a Shahab intermediate range ballistic missile.
It now appears that this wasn’t the case, at least according to a Western intelligence official cited by Time and
the former director of an Iranian state-run organization closely linked
to the Iranian regime, also anonymous, quoted by the British Guardian.
The former Iranian official told the Guardian, “I believe that Saturday’s explosion was part of the covert war against Iran, led by Israel.”
The Israeli press seems to be echoing this sentiment, regardless of
the fact that Iranian officials say that it was a purely accidental
event that occurred when Revolutionary Guard troops were transporting
munitions.
The anonymous Western intelligence official quoted by Time also rejects the Iranian’s explanation that it was an accident.
“Don’t believe the Iranians that it was an accident,” he told Time,
while also claiming that other acts of sabotage are being planned in an
attempt to slow the alleged Iranian nuclear weapons program.
If Mossad agents were indeed behind the blast, one could say that it was quite a successful operation.
Among the 17 killed in the blast was Major General Hassan Moqqadam, an individual that the Iranian state media has characterized as a pioneering researcher in Iranian missile development along with Mostafa Izadi, an Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander who was in charge of “ensuring self-sufficiency” in Iranian armaments.
Losing both of these individuals might be a considerable setback for the Iranian missile and weapons programs, especially given the international sanctions leveled against them which are likely to become increasingly harsh as time goes on.
It is worth noting that Moqqadam, also spelled Moghaddam, was allegedly trained in ballistic science in China and North Korea, according to the Guardian which would implicate both countries in the alleged Iranian nuclear missile program.
Moqqadam was eulogized by Hossein Salami, the deputy head of the Revolutionary Guard, who called Moqqadam “the main architect of the Revolutionary Guards’ cannon and missile power and the founder of the deterrent power of our country.”
All of the deaths were clearly import to the Iranian government given that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei attended all of the funerals.
Time aptly points out that if indeed this was carried out by Israel, with or without the help of Washington and other allies of the apartheid state, it shows that an overt strike might not be necessary

If covert strikes could successfully hinder the Iranian weapons
program – nuclear or non-nuclear alike – then it would effectively
remove the need for a preemptive strike against Iran which could create a
World War III-type scenario.
Israeli intelligence agencies are not stupid, so if they could avoid repercussions, both political and military, it is only logical to assume that they would exploit such an option.
The former Iranian official who spoke to the Guardian also claimed that the blast in October of last year at another IRGC missile base close to Khorramabad was the work of Israeli intelligence.
“I have information that both these incidents were the work of sabotage by agents of Israel, aimed at halting Iran’s missile program,” the anonymous official said.
While this is highly plausible, we must also realize that Mossad has an incentive to manufacture this narrative, if in reality they did not conduct or organize the sabotage.
If the Iranians are telling the truth and in fact the blast was caused by the movement of munitions, logically it would only make sense for Israeli intelligence agencies to take credit for it.
This would make sense because the prestige that would come with pulling off such a covert operation is far from negligible and it would likely instill fear in the hearts of the Iranian government and people to know that Israel can successfully pull off killing major Iranian military figures.
Another major aspect to the possible covert Mossad assault on Iran is the introduction of a relative to the Stuxnet virus, called Duqu.
The head of the Iranian civil defense program, Gholamreza Jalali, said, “We are in the initial phase of fighting the Duqu virus. The final report which says which organizations the virus has spread to and what its impacts are has not been completed yet. All the organizations and centers that could be susceptible to being contaminated are being controlled.”
I covered Duqu last month when the news first emerged and it was discovered that it was actually built upon the source code of Stuxnet, which a leading security expert, Ralph Langner, attributed to Israel and the United States due to the immense complexity and the target country which was clearly Iran.
However, Duqu differs from Stuxnet in a significant way. This incarnation is not engineered to hijack the computer controls like Stuxnet did; instead it is a sort of precursor to a larger attack.
Duqu infects target systems and gathers sensitive system intelligence while also recording keystrokes, after which Duque encrypts and compresses the file for later exfiltration from the machine.
While originally it was thought that Duqu was using a custom command-and-control (C&C) server to transfer fake JPG files, apparently the Iranian systems were infected with a Microsoft Word document.
The Duqu virus could precede another Stuxnet-like attack on Iranian nuclear facilities, or it could be for an entirely different purpose, like destroying their computer defense systems in order to carry out a physical military attack.
It could also be used to gather intelligence from Iranian computers which could give the Israelis and their intelligence agencies a glimpse into what the Iranians are doing.
The Mossad’s possible covert war being waged on Iran is nothing new, at least in the eyes of the Iranians.

scientist Massoud Ali-Mohammadi “confessed they had received
assassination training from [Israeli intelligence agency] Mossad; and
Mossad had provided all their equipment,” according to the deputy head
of the Majilis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission as quoted
by the Iranian Fars News Agency.
It is also quite worth noting that during Saturday night’s South Carolina GOP debate presidential candidate Newt Gingrich promoted the exact thing that happened in Iran.
Gingrich said he would use “maximum covert operations to block and disrupt the Iranian program, including taking out their scientists, including breaking up their systems, all of it covertly, all of it deniable.”
He also said we should exercise “maximum coordination with the Israelis in a way which allows them to maximize their impact on Iran.”
Interestingly, the explosion indeed killed a major Iranian scientist and now the Duqu virus is breaking up their systems.
Previously in November of 2010, Majid Shahriari, another top nuclear scientist was assassinated while another scientist, Fereydoon Abbasi Davani was wounded.
Also in 2010, in July, another nuclear researcher, Shahram Amiri said that he was kidnapped by the CIA in Medina and held for more than a year in America. Officials in the United States claimed that he in fact defected and then changed his mind.
This is an especially interesting case because it doesn’t really make sense for the U.S. to release a nuclear researcher back into Iran, based on the fact that American officials believe that Iran is developing nuclear weapons.
Unsurprisingly, the CIA declined to comment on these accusations in any way whatsoever.
In this case as well the Iranian government said that Mossad and the CIA were involved.

Why is it okay for America to go around the world assassinating scientists and committing acts of terrorism while it is not okay for any other country to do it?
This is the type of nonsensical double standard that allows the United States and Israel to have nuclear weapons while Iran or other so-called “enemy” or “rogue” states cannot.
Not to be undone by his Zionist cohorts, Herman Cain said, “The first thing that I would do is to assist the opposition movement in Iran that’s trying to overthrow the regime. Our enemies are not the people of Iran. It’s the regime. And a regime change is what they are trying to achieve.”
Former governor of Massachusetts and republican candidate Mitt Romney also promoted covert operations in Iran, calling for working “on a covert basis to encourage the dissidents.”
This might already be occurring with the help of the Mujahideen e-Khalq, or MEK, who, according to Richard Silverstein, was likely involved.
Of course the MEK deny any involvement and continue to claim that they are no longer a terrorist organization while the U.S. State Department continues to list them as one.
Silverstein points out that it is well known among the intelligence community that Israel utilizes the MEK for various espionage and terrorism operations in Iran.
He cites incidents like the release of fraudulent Iranian memos claiming that they were working on triggers for nuclear devices and the assassinations of nuclear scientists I covered above along with the bombings of critical military installations.
Silverstein cites an anonymous Israeli source who has “extensive political and military experience” who claims that the operations was indeed the work of the Mossad with the help of the MEK.
While I’m always skeptical of anonymous sources, logically it only makes sense that the Mossad would utilize the MEK in their operations in Iran.
It has also been said that the American CIA and Special Operations communities have had long-standing relationships with the MEK and a Kurdish separatist group, the Party for a Free Life in Kurdistan (PJAK).
In a 2008 article published in The New Yorker, Seymour M. Hersh revealed that despite the State Department’s listing of the MEK as a terrorist organization for more than a decade, “in recent years the group has received arms and intelligence, directly or indirectly, from the United States.”
An anonymous Pentagon consultant told Hersh, that some of the then newly authorized covert funding would likely be used with the MEK.
“The new task force will work with the M.E.K. The Administration is desperate for results,” the source said.
He also added that since no one is auditing the MEK’s books, it is likely the case that the leaders have been using the funds for their own purposes.
The source said, “The M.E.K. has no C.P.A. auditing the books, and its leaders are thought to have been lining their pockets for years. If people only knew what the M.E.K. is getting, and how much is going to its bank accounts—and yet it is almost useless for the purposes the Administration intends.”

forces, evidenced by them turning over a leader of Jundallah to the
government of Iran.
Jundallah is a Baluchi separatist group which is based just across the Pakistani-Iranian border in the province of Baluchistan.
Indeed the news of Jundallah being backed by the United States is nothing new. In 2007, ABC News published that the U.S. and Pakistani intelligence sources told them that Jundallah was advised and encouraged by American officials.
In 2010, eleven Jundallah terrorists were executed in Iran, before which a leader named Abdolmalek Rigi reportedly admitted that the American government promised unlimited funds and resources for “waging an insurgency” against the Iranian government.
This is not only believable, but it is in line with American operations globally and the terrorist networks directly and indirectly supported by the United States.
In fact, even the Israeli Jerusalem Post points out that the U.S. and Israel have been accused over the years of working with the MEK and other Iranian opposition groups who are attempting to enact regime change in Iran.
It is also congruent with the statements of GOP candidates and U.S. officials who openly promote the destabilization of Iran by whatever means necessary.
Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak also praised the most recent murder of Iranians, saying in an interview with Army Radio that while he did not have details he said, “May there be more like it.”
In no uncertain terms, Barak is supporting covert Mossad operations, if that is indeed what occurred, or acts of terrorism or simply deadly accidents.
Any one of these is a bit disturbing but wholly expected coming from the likes of bloodthirsty Barak.
Of course, the United States government continues to pretend to be against terrorism and the state sponsors of terrorist groups, while in reality the U.S. uses terrorism around the world to achieve nefarious ends, along with Israel and others.

Destabilizing Iran without having to resort to overt war would greatly benefit Israel, which would likely be the first and hardest hit by an Iranian counter-attack.
As information unfolds regarding the possible covert assault on Iran even more arrows point back to the Israeli Mossad and the West.
Hopefully as more information becomes available we will get a clearer picture but the Mossad isn’t known as a very sloppy organization so we can expect what public intelligence is available to be relatively inconclusive.
That is, of course, unless the Mossad seeks to have their operation known in order to threaten the Iranians, in which case we could expect some leaks, more hints at their involvement in the Israeli press, and/or an outright admission after the Iranian systems have been sufficiently compromised.
