Herman Cain’s foreign policy objectives were on show once again last
night as the GOP candidate made some bizarre statements that should
have even the most ardent Republican hawks worried.
During a lengthy interview with Bill O’Reilly on Fox News, Cain
suggested that he wouldn’t see it as a problem to enter into full on
military confrontation with Iran.
When O’Reilly asked “What is the most important foreign policy
problem the United States has to deal with today?” Cain attempted to
sidestep the issue by giving a generic answer and simply replying “Lack
of clarity”.
“No, specifically.” O’Reilly countered, “What area of the world concerns you the most?”
“The Middle East, obviously….” Cain answered, somewhat reticently.
“At the time I become president I will have to evaluate the
situation in Iraq, and Iran, and everyone of these countries.” he
added.
After failing to convince O’Reilly with more of the same rhetoric
about energy independence and pleading “work with me here Bill, work
with me,” Cain conceded that in order to deal with Iran he would
“maximize the use of our Ballistic missile Defense capabilities.”
"I Would double the use of ballistic missile capable ships," Cain
explained, adding “Iran understands only two things, economic pressure
and military might.”
“So you’re going to put warships in the Gulf, because they’ll attack them, you know.” O’Reilly hamfistedly countered.
“That would be perfectly alright, because I believe that we have superior capability.” Cain replied.
